The Power of a Dream

Big Dreams Overcome Small Distractions - Mr. DAPs

Do you ever just stop and take time for yourself to dream?

Big Dreams Overcome Small Distractions - Mr. DAPsLet’s face it. I’m a dreamer. I like to dream about the future and what will be. It is an important part of my daily routine. Every morning I like to spend some time dreaming. This isn’t just a daydream but a dream about where I want to go and what it will be like when I get there.

As it turns out, this is an incredibly healthy thing to do in the quest for success. Today I’m going to share with five reasons why you should be joining me as a dreamer and actually pursue your dreams instead of subduing them.

1. Dreaming Connects

When we dream big (REALLY big!) we connect with something deep inside that helps us recognize our true calling in life. The more we dream the more excited we get about this calling. As we get more excited about our dream we discover that the pursuit of the dream drives us onward. The dream connects to a more positive mindset and equally important, action.

2. Dreaming Improves

As we continue to dream and pursue the dream we start to see the bigger picture. We also see what is needed to get us where we need to go and feel inclined to make the changes to do what it takes to continue to pursue the dream. We can look at the greater good and do what it takes to make it happen. We discover that as we seek to improve, we grow.

3. Dreaming Focuses

Big dreams will overcome small distractions. There are so many cliche quotes about the power of focus (Eye on the ball!) and they all come down to this: Focus on where you are going and don’t waste time with the little things that could keep you from getting there. This will lead to a healthier mindset and a more efficient/effective effort.

One added thought: It’s hard to walk through the woods when you are looking behind you.

4. Dreams Create Possibilities

How often are we limited by our own thinking that isn’t big enough? As we dream bigger we discover that the more doors to more possibilities open. We find that as these possibilities appear we are more apt to pursue them. The adventure continues to get better and better as we pursue the dreams and explore the possibilities.

5. Dreaming Creates Habits of Success

Another benefit of dreaming is that it really does change us. We focus on the positive. We pursue what we focus on. We change our habits and make decisions based on the dream as opposed to based on what is easy or safe. Hurdles become something to jump over, not something to fear, as we run the race to success.

There are so many other benefits associated with dreaming. These were just a few. I hope these five benefits create a compelling reason to spend a few minutes a day dreaming about where you want to go… rather than focusing on what’s keeping you where you are. Spend some time dreaming every day and you will be happier, you will be more successful, and you will find yourself discovering even bigger dreams. That seems like a pretty good return on a fun daily investment, don’t you think?

Let’s go out and pursue some dreams!

Make it a GREAT day!
